'What if All is' - An Installation by Alexandra Kehayoglou
Kehayglou’s work inspires me as I admire how she can turn smaller tufted rugs into an immersive landscape and make use of light and shadow to create an atmosphere within the tunnel. It is truly captivating how something so soft, such as yarn, can create an environment with various textures and objects. The theme of portals and otherworldliness is really prevalent as you enter the textural tunnel and explore Kehayoglou’s journey through ancient Patagonia.
The work is also highly personal to Alexandra and relates to her family and ancestors through the recycled materials used from her family’s factory. This means that even the yarn itself is sacred as it has been handed down to her. In turn, this suggests that it is up to Kehayglou to create something which perfectly illustrates her past, traditions and folklore.
