Guardians Of Living Matter
A visit to the Guardians of Living Matter exhibition at the Lowry in Salford. In order to explore various methods of installation to inform the curation of my degree show work.
I found the context of AI and mycelium entangling fascinating. The scientific context behind the work and an envisionment of a possible future world were interesting topics and made the audience think about the future and how we can become more sustainable. The concepts surrounding 'more than human' are interesting and link rigorously with my ideas surrounding the environment and human intervention. The exhibition allowed me to explore these concepts in the provided literature and throughout the installation as a whole.
The installation is interactive and immersive, with giant mycelium sculptures interacting with light projections and drawings of binary wrapping around the viewer. This exhibition and experience made me question how I could provide an interactive and speculative environment in my installation, whether that be through light projections or manipulating the woven pieces into forms which create a space that a viewer is invited into, immersing them in the environment in which the work is inspired by, with colour and pattern. This is a possibility, and will be considered when experimenting and creating curation plans for the show.
